Independence and the Entrepreneur

America. Whatever else might be right or wrong with it, one of the greatest things our country has to offer is the chance for us to make our dreams a reality. There is something powerful to be said of our freedom to choose what we want to do, and have the resources readily available to make it happen. This is a rich place to be an entrepreneur.

People rarely choose to become entrepreneurs with no real motivation. Rather, they are often deeply motivated by their dreams and goals. What made you choose to become an entrepreneur? What were the reasons motivating you to start your own business? For some, it’s the thrill and adventure of it. Others value the ability to set their own schedule. Sometimes it’s a need to make decisions best for the family. Or maybe it’s a deep belief that a product or service you can offer will truly change the world.

Choosing the independent career path of an entrepreneur isn’t always easy. If we didn’t know that in the beginning, we certainly do now! With this independence comes a greater level of responsibility, both to ourselves and to the vision we started out with. Staying motivated isn’t always simple either. Keeping the top three reasons you went into business for yourself front and center can help motivate you to persevere through the tough aspects of business ownership. At least, that’s what works for us. Here are the top three reasons Jamie, our founder, went into business:

  • Vision and purpose
  • Enthusiasm for business promotion and growth
  • Ability to set my own schedule and help as many people as I can

As we celebrate Independence Day this year, we at Propel are reflecting on how thankful we are to live in a place where we can pursue our passion freely. Please share a few thoughts on what motivates you or what you are thankful to have as an entrepreneur by commenting below.
