Creating Business Seasons to Drive More Consistent Sales
Each year around this time most of us really start itching for better weather, more sunshine and outdoor time, and for winter to close its doors paving the way for spring to arrive.
It doesn’t go unnoticed that winter in our area was mild and we only had one day of snowfall (which subsequently turned to ice, shut down the airport and canceled our flight to Mexico), but who doesn’t love spring blooms, buds and blossoms?
As we begin planning our spring and summer activities and getting our property ready for the fun that will surely ensue as our little girl embarks on three years old, I find myself thinking about all of the ways we prepare for the seasons.
From opening the windows and doing a deep spring clean to usher out winter dust, to decorating for the holidays, each season brings an opportunity to refresh in various ways.
Just like spring, summer, fall and winter, your business also has seasons. And with each season comes excitement from those in the community around you to bring in the new and pack away the old. Harnessing that excitement and planning ahead to capture attention is where I’m focusing today.

While many seasons might be directed by your industry, others may be implemented by you.
Do you let your business be dictated by your industry? Paying attention to your industry is important, but have you ever considered ways to think creatively and create business seasons to drive more consistent sales?
If you have found certain times of year to be slower than others, allowing your business to launch campaigns during those times can create a more steady stream of income. Look at the year from a bird’s eye view and begin strategizing how and when you can create excitement and interest more regularly throughout the year in order to generate more sales.
So, if you are looking for ways to expand your business, or grow your customer base or marketing lists, let me suggest developing your own seasons.
Here are a few industry examples to get your creative juices flowing…
Example: Business Birthday or Anniversary
Perhaps you decide to dub a particular month of each year your business anniversary month. Each year during that month you could decorate your physical location, create a theme for the celebration, offer specials, develop unique content for readers, followers and fans, and garner excitement and energy around your company’s birthday. You could brainstorm fun themes each year and generate new marketing materials to engage and attract your ideal customers.
Example: Residential Real Estate Industry Business
At the end of each winter, spring becomes a ramp up time in the real estate industry. People clean up their property to put their home on the market after the holidays are over. New growth and life on trees, grass and blossoms provide beautiful landscape and curb appeal to market their house when natures colors start to reemerge. During the first quarter of the year, this industry can focus some effort toward connecting with their network and providing tips to prepare homes for sale while simultaneously becoming the go-to resource for homeowners and others in the industry.
Example: Shoe/Clothing Sales
Since each weather season brings different temperatures and weather needs, the apparel/shoe industry has at least 4 seasons they can use to generate new shoe sales to customers. Those sales and marketing tactics should begin in the prior season and be focused on current tends, giving the company opportunity to be a leader in their area of expertise.
No matter what industry or if you are own a business with a physical presence or virtual only, may I encourage you to think outside the box when it comes to setting the pace and tone for your business sales pipeline. The possibilities are endless, so get to planning and set some new ideas in motion!
