Home Office Makeover FTW!

4.1.21 Home Office Makeover FTW 1

Did you catch my post on Feb 12th? Propel’s office has been a fun journey and evolution over these last 12 years. Today, I’m revealing the “after” of Q1: 2021’s home office makeover – (for the win)!!

To see the ‘before’ check out Propel’s Office Evolution here.

For the past couple years I have been itching to makeover my office and it really needed it in a bad way! When I moved my office home in 2016, I merged our home office with my business office and some things got stuck in the process. We had old, hand-me-down furniture and part of the space was even designated for temporary storage.

This January though, I got inspired, made my plan, and put the overhaul into motion, starting with purging, sifting, tossing, and reorganizing every single thing methodically and carefully.

And then, all the lovely pieces started falling into place…

It started with a dear friend who needed to find another home for her step-father’s gorgeous vintage executive desk. I haven’t had real desk drawers in over 12 years, plus do you see the colors in the wood? And let me say it again – VINTAGE!! So me and SO dreamy!

The one item I knew I wanted to hang from my previous gallery wall is the antique photo of downtown Portland’s Broadway street during the Rose Festival in 1919. It got a new frame while I scoured online to purchase just the right mirror from a local community member in order to reflect light from the window back into the room:

This beautiful set of teak bookshelves was purchased from a widow and offers ample space for my library, records and player, storage, and favorite keepsakes and decor items that keep me inspired:

I even changed the ceiling light to a bright LED track lighting (which my handy husband installed for me) and went shopping for new, easy-sliding curtains with grommets for my storage closet (which I took the doors off years ago to afford space for my file cabinet):

One of my favorite hunts was for lighting, and the gem in the corner is the perfect match for my eclectic and cozy space. Plus! The antique chair now stationed at my husband’s custom-made table (which served as my former desk) was given to me by the same friend who gifted me the new desk. What incredible gifts!:

But I didn’t do this all on my own! I had help shopping, acquiring, arranging, organizing, thinking through each and every area, item and positioning. (Thank you to my friend and professional organizer, Vicki Norris!)

When it’s all said and done, I’m thrilled!! My office now feels even more like me than ever before and it does everything I need it to:

  1. Provides a comfortable, efficient, and productive space for me to enjoy working in.
  2. Gives me multiple work stations to be creative from.
  3. Offers a beautiful backdrop for all my virtual client and team member meetings.
  4. Calms me and makes me smile with delight over the beautiful treatments, soothing colors, and favorite items which also provide beautiful inspiration!
  5. Affords me the ability to enjoy natural light, the weather, our chickens, and outside musings all from the comfort of being inside.

Now, my office speaks to me and invites me to come enjoy working from home.

How does your work space speak to you?
