Just because one entrepreneur chooses or needs to work on weekends doesn’t mean everyone does…
It is my opinion that before expecting a professional to respond, jump, and work after 5pm on Friday it would serve you well to ask them what hours they keep for their business – and then respect that. Unless there is a severe emergency, any question or request can wait until Monday.
Yes, I’m talking about me, but I’m also contending and protecting, guarding and making a case for the team members I hold in my care. Not to mention the clients who working tireless days and endless weeks and truly need a break come Saturday (or Sunday at the very least).
On the flip side, it is also up to the professional in reference to turn off their notifications and if a non-urgent request comes in, to ignore it until they are back on the work clock.
True, when I started Propel I worked every day, most times all day, and long into the night. My excitement and passions ran high and the ideas and list of things I could think of to do ran long.
But a few years in my husband encouraged me to re-evaluate. It was then that I realized it was important to not only take time in the evenings to spend with him, it was also vital for me to take a day for me – an intentional day of rest and self-care. A day that allowed me to push pause, recharge, and come back to the desk refreshed after.
From that moment I began stopping work when he got home for the day and actually began going to bed at the same time he did. And, I made sure we had at least one of the two weekend days together. If he worked on Saturday I often did as well, but that gave us Sunday to have quality time – which every relationship needs.
Plus! Everyone deserves a day off now and then.
