Do Gratitude: Thank you goes a long ways!

Thank You!

Clients, team members, partners, friends, and family – no matter what relationships you hold or how you interact with others, a sincere thank you always goes a long ways! This week I’m talking about gratitude, including a personal story, and a few ways you can apply yourself toward this goal.

This week I’ve received thank you’s from quite a few individuals. Clients and team members have expressed their gratitude for various things we’ve accomplished together, and I even got a thank you from my 3 year old nephew. (true story)

But one client stands out this week and each time I am brought into a project to work with him, his gratitude is felt wholly. He never uses ‘Thanks’, instead opting for the longer route and taking the time to type out the full ‘Thank you!’. One reason I take note of that is because I am also a huge proponent of using that language rather than the abbreviation. Either way, it is something I appreciate greatly.

If a heart is a muscle, then having a grateful heart is something you must use often in order to build strength and recognize all you really have to be thankful for. The more you flex, the more your perspective and the world changes around you. (Look for good and you will find it.)

This particular client is not only generous with his time and thoughtfulness, he shows his gratitude through his timeliness on payments, too. Last holiday season he even asked me to charge his card $500 more than the invoice as a gesture of his gratitude for the work I do, the turnaround time I operate under for his projects, and the high standards I operate with. What an incredible double gift! Bonus income AND a sincere thankful heart.

Here are a few of the ways you can show your gratitude:

  • don’t assume they know how grateful you are, say it (on a call, in email, online, through a review – say it!)
  • send a hand-written thank you card in the mail (trust me, it speaks volumes)
  • leave a review on Google or Facebook or Yelp to show your appreciation of the experience you’ve had (bonus: not only do they get the ‘thank you’, but it helps their profile and public image. win. win.)
  • mail a gift to show your appreciation of a referral or a job well done
  • call someone just to say hello and you’re grateful they are in your life (time well spent)
  • pay your invoice early or at least on time (value acknowledged)
  • spend quality time with someone who has treated you well
  • learn someone’s love language and show them you care by speaking their language to them
  • buy someone coffee or lunch to show your gratefulness
