I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to learn that many people have never heard of a babymoon. While it’s similar to a honeymoon (which happens after a wedding), a babymoon happens before baby arrives and it can be a very special time for couples to connect before their family grows.
With the thought of our whole world changing in the blink of an eye once our little girl finally arrives, Kevin and I knew it was important to take some time to enjoy pre-baby moments, just the two of us.
We have always savored our vacations and have been diligent to schedule and take them each year, as much as possible. Since we have not had a real vacation, just the two of us, since 2019, the idea of babymooning was easy. Deciding to take the time was a little more challenging, but we’re always so glad when we do and we made it happen.
So, we got away for a few nights to Central Oregon’s Sunriver Resort soaking up the freezing winter temps and snow covered grounds. Brisk walks, delicious meals, talking and dreaming and relaxing together were just what the doctor ordered. I even took some time to make a felt mobile for sweet girl’s nursery. An investment of time and love that will live on in this keepsake item long into the future.
Then, a generous client offered their vacation rental to us for the weekend and we escaped to Waldport, Oregon. Here, we spent a few more nights overlooking the Pacific from the comfort of a well-appointed, comfortable, and gorgeous beach house on the sand. Having never stayed in that area, we took the chance to explore, seek out seafood eateries, take long walks on the beach to soak up the sand, surf, and sun, and even got some antiquing in. What a priceless gift!
When all is said and done and we have run our life’s race, neither of us want to regret not taking time to enjoy each other, build strong and meaningful relationships, and experience what life has to offer. We find less value in working just to build wealth than focusing on our priorities and what really matters.
In that way (and so many others), I’m blessed to be married to this man for almost 17 years and to know we are entering a whole new phase of our journey side-by-side, priorities in check, and a little wiser because of the lessons we’ve learned over the years. How precious to know this is the day and time that has been dedicated to starting our family and investing in the next generation. We are so grateful!
And yes, we can’t wait to meet her, but we are also thoroughly enjoying every single day of this pregnancy walk as we learn and grow and experience all that is new to us – together!

What fun for you both and I love, love, love your mobile. So creative! 🙂
Thank you Margie. It was a fun project and something I enjoyed doing very much. Since my husband is a fisherman, he had some sway in the characters included, and we agree it is a whimsical way to incorporate dad in the nursery.
Jamie, you are radiant! Thank you for sharing your journey to motherhood with us.
Awww. Thank you Jen! 🥰 My pleasure!
